Geneva – Morocco hailed the report of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) drafted following its mission in Morocco, said, on Monday, the Kingdom’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Omar Hilale.
Morocco also welcomed the constructive approach of the Group, the impartiality and high level of competence of its members, as well as the quality of work done in this regard, the Moroccan diplomat said at a debate following the presentation of WGEID Chairman, Jeremy Sarkin on the Group mission in Morocco last June.
Hilale said Morocco takes note of the important and constructive recommendations made by the WGEID report, which attempts to accompany the reforms dynamic witnessed in the Kingdom in various fields.
He also highlighted the significant progress made by the Kingdom since the visit of the Working Group, recalling that the Advisory Council of Human Rights (CCDH) had recently published a follow up report on the implementation of the IER recommendations.
The WGEID visit in Morocco, Hilale said, has open the way toward consolidated cooperation of other countries in the region with the Working Group to reach the ultimate strategic common objective, including the final settlement of the cases of disappearances.
He also pointed out that Morocco, aware of the close relation between its domestic democratic choices and its multilateral diplomatic action, deems extremely important the consolidation of its cooperation relations with the UN bodies and mechanisms in charge of the issue of Human Rights.
The WGEID visit culminated in a report which commended the work of the Justice and Equity Commission (IER) and formulated a number of recommendations, mainly at the institutional and legislative levels with the aim to encourage the efforts made by Morocco to consolidate democracy and the Rule of Law.
